In Greece all trucks that exceed any of normal dimensions 16.50 x 2.55 x 4.00m / 40t is considered as oversized transport and needs special permits and escort vehicle. For weight over 40t special permits can be issued only for un-divisable cargo with a special declaration.
Police escort is necessary only for special cases upon authorities instructions.
Movement of oversized trucks under special permits is allowed Monday to Friday from sunrise time until sunset time. NOT ALLOWED during night, weekends , public holidays and specific restrictions during holiday periods.
Types of permits in Greece: Permits for single use with no possibility of renewal or change of any details after permit is ready.
Permits validity: most common 1-5 working days.
Necessary time to obtain permits: usually 3-4 working days.
Necessary documents for permits obtaining:
- Registration license of truck & trailer with updated dates where applicable
- Green card insurance valid for the requested dates of transport
- Cargo description and dimensions License of international transports of transporter company
